Google Squared: Making Scraper Sites Easy
| by trigatch4 on May 12th, 2009 |
I just saw this article on TechCrunch about a new Google service called “Google Squared” that puts results into databases based on customized columns that you decide. Watch the video, taking particular interest at about 3:30 in, and if you’re a scraping kinda guy/gal you’re probably getting a little hot and bothered:
I’d like to make 3 points:
- First of all, this is going to make scraping INCREDIBLY easy. If you think about it… this is Google doing the scraping for you, however you custom order it, for free. This should be interesting.
- If you thought Wikipedia caused proliferation of false information… imagine this! People do a search and since the almighty equation told them it was a fact they believe it and spit it out elsewhere. When in reality, I’m not sure how they can get accurate results? They must be cross referencing a very refined list of data.
- I would love to do some searches for things like “celebrity sex tape”, “big boobs”, “painful” and a search for my name would be kind of fun too. This could be pretty darn entertaining.
This will launch at the end of May, most likely at Google I/O.
Lots to talk about so make it happen.
